How to Respond to Negative Reviews for Lawn Care Companies
The short answer
The five rules
- Respond within a day or two, calmly.
- Name the specific issue — a missed week, a scalped strip, a damaged sprinkler head.
- Take it offline with a direct number.
- Keep it short and professional.
- Don’t blame the customer or the weather in public.
Example responses
Scenario 1 — “They scalped my lawn / left ruts.”
“I’m sorry we didn’t leave your lawn the way it should be, [First Name]. Scalping and ruts are on us to prevent, and I’d like to come look and make it right. Please call me at [Phone]. — [Owner], [Business]”
Scenario 2 — “They skipped a week and the grass got out of control.”
“Thank you for letting me know — a missed week in growing season is a real problem and I understand the frustration. I’ll check the route and get you back on schedule, and we’ll get it back under control. Please reach me at [Phone].”
Scenario 3 — “The crew damaged my sprinkler / fence.”
“I’m sorry about the damage — that’s not acceptable and we’ll take care of it. Please call me at [Phone] with the details and we’ll arrange the repair. I appreciate you giving us the chance to fix it.”

What not to do
- Don’t argue that the brown spots are the weather or the customer’s watering in public, even if true.
- Don’t reveal the customer’s address or account details.
- Don’t let a quick-tempered reply go out — a defensive lawn-care company looks worse than one bad mow.
Hear about problems early
Most lawn complaints — a missed visit, an uneven cut, a damaged head — are easy fixes if you hear about them quickly. Laudvi routes private feedback directly to you, giving a customer an easy way to tell you so you can make it right. It never hides, filters, or discourages your public reviews.
